No — handles and hinges fitted to fire doors must be from the approved hardware schedule specific to that door set. Fitting non-approved hardware voids the fire door certification and could constitute a building regulation breach. FBS supplies a full approved hardware schedule with every fire door set, listing the specific handle, hinge, closer, and latch models that are tested and certified for use with that product. All our fire-rated hardware is flagged clearly in the range and is available in all six finishes.

Standard internal doors up to 2m high and 40kg require a minimum of 2 hinges, though 3 is best practice and required on all fire doors. Doors over 2m high or over 60kg should use 3 hinges. Extra-tall or very heavy doors (over 100kg) may require 4 hinges — our Grade 13 hinges are rated for doors up to 120kg per set of 3. All FBS pre-hung sets are supplied with 3 hinges as standard.

No — door closers are only mandatory on fire doors and certain high-traffic commercial applications. Standard residential internal doors do not require a closer. However, a closer is required by building regulations on any door that forms part of a fire compartment — this includes all fire-rated door sets. The closer must be from the approved schedule for the specific fire door and must be set to a closing force sufficient to overcome the intumescent seals.

Yes — all FBS hardware finishes carry a 5-year finish warranty against tarnishing, corrosion, and delamination under normal residential use. The satin stainless and polished chrome finishes use a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating process, which is significantly more durable than traditional lacquer. Antique brass and gunmetal finishes use a living finish process that develops a natural patina over time — this is by design, not a defect. The mechanical warranty on all hardware is 10 years.

Tell us the number of doors, the split between standard and fire-rated openings, and your preferred finish, and we'll provide a fully itemised quote with per-door and total pricing. Development packs also come with a dedicated account manager, delivery scheduling by plot, and a complete hardware schedule for your O&M manual.
