Yes. Approved Document N of the UK Building Regulations requires that any glazing in a critical location — defined as below 1500mm from the floor in a door, or below 800mm from the floor in a wall — must be made from safety glass. All FBS glass doors use toughened safety glass complying with BS EN 12150. The glass breaks into small, blunt fragments rather than dangerous shards if impacted. This applies to all our products and no additional action is required from the installer to comply.

Yes — bespoke sizing is available across the entire glass door range. Frameless panels can be made up to 1200mm wide and 2400mm tall. Part-glazed timber sets can be made to non-standard widths and heights within the structural limits of the door construction. Acoustic and Lacobel products are available bespoke to any RAL colour or size within the glass manufacturer's sheet size. Lead times for bespoke glass are 10–15 working days from approved drawing.

Frosted glass is acid-etched — the surface is chemically treated to create a uniform matte white appearance that completely obscures visibility while transmitting diffused light. Reeded (or fluted) glass has a textured surface with vertical ridges that scatter and diffuse light in a distinctive pattern — visibility is obscured at close range but may be partial at distance. Frosted is the privacy choice; reeded is the design-led choice. Both are available in toughened safety glass.

Our standard acoustic glass door set achieves Rw 36dB sound reduction — significantly better than a standard solid timber door (typically Rw 28–32dB). Our premium acoustic set with additional perimeter seals achieves Rw 42dB. To put that in context, every 10dB reduction halves the perceived loudness of sound. The acoustic performance depends on the full installation — frame, seals, and threshold must all be correctly fitted. Our team can provide project-specific acoustic data on request.

Yes — frameless glass panels can be hung on a floor-spring pivot set for a hinged application, or on a top-hung sliding system. We supply the glass panel as standard; pivot floor springs and clamp pivot hinges are available separately from our Handles and Hardware range and are specified to match the weight and size of the glass leaf. We'd recommend speaking to our technical team before ordering to confirm the correct hardware specification for your opening dimensions.
